The Office Staff
Traci Hoekstra,Business Manager
Business manager and Dr. Hoekstra’s wife, Traci is an East Texas girl who attended Stephen F. Austin State University. She worked for many years in the legal field, but being a lifelong animal lover, was thrilled to leave the corporate world behind and join Dr. H in building and running Animal House Veterinary Hospital. Little did she know what was in store for her! Like Dr. Hoekstra, Traci is very proud of Animal House Veterinary Hospital and their wonderful staff.
Traci is an avid gardener and “do-it-yourself” person, and when they aren’t at work, she and Dr. H are always working on some sort of project. She is an artist from way back, and thanks to office manager Jennifer Webb-Shapley, now has some time to start pursuing her creative interests again. When at the office, their dogs can usually be found under her desk.
Jennifer Webb-Shapley,Office Manager
Jen is originally from the Chicago area, and moved to Texas in 2011. She LOVES Texas and has made this her permanent home. She obtained her Associate’s Degree in business from Purdue University. Jen spent a majority of her career up north managing humane societies and non-profit organizations. She has always felt strongly about working with animals and being their voice. Jen has a 21-year-old son, a 7-year-old son, and a 5-year-old daughter. She has two dogs and a cat, all of which are shelter rescued animals. Jen feels very fortunate to have found such a great place to work, doing what she loves, while working with a very caring group of individuals.
The Reception Staff
Roxie was born in New York but raised in Texas. She married a New Yorker in 2004 who has earned his right to be called a Texan. She and Todd have three beagles (Jaxson, Molly, and Trinity). Molly and Trinity can often be seen helping out at work, greeting as many people as possible if they aren’t too busy napping. Roxie has been in the veterinary business since 2007. She enjoys all of the furry creatures. They don’t ask for much, except to get a little love, get some food, play tug of war, get some cuddling, eat some house plants, (did we mention more food?), eat a pair of eyeglasses, steal your cell phone and hide it in pieces in the yard… and so on. “The unconditional love that my pets give me is what keeps me in this field; I can see it in the people and pets that come in every day.”
Tammi and her husband moved to League City from McKinney, Texas, in January 2013. She is originally from Overland Parks, Kansas, and has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in education. After teaching for 25 years, she chose to work with four-legged children. Tammi and her husband are surrounded by a 10-year-old Pomeranian named Cooper, a 2-year-old Labrador named Max, and a Pomeranian puppy named Yodi. She enjoys golfing and spending time with her daughter and son-in-law, who are stationed at Ft. Leonardwood Army Base in Missouri.
Melissa has been with Animal House since we opened in 2011, with one short break to be with her family. She’s been working in this field since 2008 and says it is the most rewarding job for her. She really likes meeting the pets that come in here. Melissa and her husband are both from Orange, Texas, where they met in school. They have been together for more than 12 years and have two kiddos, a 7-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl. They also have Rukia, an Australian shepherd; Fraggle, a soft-coated Wheaten terrier mix; and Wyatt, a dachshund. They also have a bearded dragon named Reptar. In their down time, Melissa and her husband like going to car shows/meets, taking the dogs to the dog park, or just hanging out with family or friends.
The Veterinary Technicians
Tiffany says she got into the veterinary field because she has always loved animals, and as a child she wanted to be a vet. She went to the Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology and graduated with an associate’s degree in animal science. She intends to stay in this field for as long as she can, since “being able to work with animals all day is awesome!” She also appreciates feeling like her work makes a difference in pets’ and owners’ lives. The best things about Animal House Veterinary Hospital are that the doctors “really care about each individual pet,” and that “Dr. Hoekstra always tries to keep up with the latest equipment and procedures.” When she isn’t here, Tiffany enjoys most outdoor activities, but especially fishing. She has three dogs, Xerxes (a Doberman), Gauge (a Doberman), and Payton (a Chihuahua).
Kate was born in Alabama and moved to Texas when she was 12 years old when her father was transferred to this area due to his job. When she was younger, Kate wanted to become a veterinarian. Kate has been a technician for four years now, while attending college. She has two dogs, Lily and Delilah, and two cats, Daisy and Dodger. Kate loves the beach, water activities, and any outdoor activity with friends and family.

Shortly after graduating, she became state and nationally certified as an RVT. She moved to Texas in the summer of 2011, where she worked at another animal hospital before coming to Animal House in 2013. Amy is currently in school part-time, working toward a BSN in nursing. She has two furry children—a bull mastiff mix named Bruce and a boxer named Rocky. In her spare time, Amy enjoys hanging out with friends, working out, taking her dogs out and doing anything outdoors, and volunteering with the church.
Sarah graduated from The Vet Tech Institute of Houston in 2009 with an AAS as a Veterinary Technician. Shortly after graduating, she moved to Alabama for her husband’s job in the Coast Guard, where they started their family with a little girl. While in Alabama, she was the manager of a non-profit shelter for a year. They were excited to move back to Houston in 2011 and settle here. They were blessed with a son in August 2013. Along with her two children, Sarah also has three furry children—two dogs named Beaux and Brittany and a cat named Thomas. When she is not working, she loves being with her children and showing them new things and playing softball with her husband.
Susan has been in the veterinary field for eight years, most of which have been managing kennels. She enjoys caring for the animals and making them feel comfortable at our hospital. Susan has always had a variety of pets, such as dogs, birds, reptiles, and fish. She currently has two labs, Misty and Midnight. Whenever time permits, Susan enjoys fishing, camping, and water sports with her husband and two sons.
Victoria was born in Groves, Texas, and moved to the League City area when she was 18. She is currently going to school to be an elementary school teacher. She loves animals and has three dogs of her own, Apollo, Teddie, and Molly. Victoria’s goal is to eventually become a Veterinary Technician here at Animal House. In her spare time, she enjoys shopping, spending time with friends and family, and babysitting her nieces and nephews.
On any given day, you may find several of the staff and doctors’ pets at the clinic. A short list includes Wilbur, Rudder, and Poppy (Dr. and Mrs. Hoekstra); Lily (Kate); Bella (Valerie); Trinity, Molly, and Jackson (Roxie); Xerxes, Gauge, and Peyton (Tiffany); and many others.
